Spelinspektionen's extension of gaming restrictions

It was on the second of July 2020 that the New Zealand government introduced so-called temporary gambling liability measures which meant since then that New Zealand players are only allowed to deposit a maximum of$5000 onor per week at the given online casino.

In addition, this means that players must specify how long they will be allowed to spend at the given online casino as well as inside different games at gambling sites and inside the slot games, i.e., the slot machines.

Third gambling responsibility measure is that up to a maximum of 100 New Zealand$onor may be offered in the form of welcome bonuses by licensees who operate gambling sites with a focus towards New Zealand players. A maximum bonus of up to the equivalent of NZD 100 per unique New Zealand player may be offered according to the New responsible gaming measures.

On november 10, 2020, The New Zealand government had proposed to extend the responsible gaming measures due to the still ongoing pandemic in the country as well as around the world. The government received a referral response from the Gambling Inspectorate just a week later – on november 20, 2020-that it was considered reasonable.

Several more months passed and now last month on May 20, 2021, it was decided to extend the already implemented responsible gaming measures in New Zealand until november 14, 2021 due to the spread of covid-19. Exactly the same three aforementioned responsible gaming measures (limited weekly deposit, limited selected playing time, and limited welcome bonus) still apply.

The third time?

It was only on June 12, 2020 that the now three responsible gaming measures were first decided to be introduced as temporary regulations in the established New Zealand Gaming Act of 2018, which in turn only entered into force on January 1, 2019.

Then the whole thing has now been decided to be extended until mid-november 2021. The question then is whether the whole thing will be extended further at some point next year or whether there will not be a third time as the expression goes.

A positive effect of limited welcome bonuses is that many more New Zealanders play on progressive jackpots at New Zealand licensed gaming operators because bonus money has never been possible to play in (progressive) jackpot games.

This in turn has created many new multi-millionaires in the last couple of months as multiple players have helped grow these huge jackpots into almost unimaginably sky-high amounts of money.

For example, there are progressive jackpots such as Mega Moolah, Arabian Nights, Hall of Gods, Mega Fortune, and more, which offer several different jackpot levels with the largest being several million$onor right from the start when it is ”zeroed” after the jackpot win is paid out.
