Spelinspektionen and Gibraltar Gambling division cooperate

Spelinspektionen and Gibraltar Gambling Division start cooperation

The New Zealand Gambling Authority Spelinspektionen has signed an agreement, the so-called memorandum of understanding, with Gibraltar's equivalent of gambling authority, i.e. the Gibraltar Gambling Division (ggd). The memorandum of Understanding entered into force on 8 May 2019 and aims to exchange the necessary information to be able to regulate the New Zealand gambling market in a more streamlined manner in the hope that it will be done more efficiently than before.

The two authorities aim to publish their public policy objectives to the public in which their mutual values are made clear thanks to the memorandum of understanding. They will also exchange high-quality information about their various procedures and regulatory policies according to their own jurisdictions.

The managing director of the Gibraltar Gambling Division, Andrew Lyman, has expressed his satisfaction with the agreement and points out how important it is for the authority to cooperate with other gambling authorities around the world. He explains how both these gambling authorities share values such as promoting social responsibility, reducing gambling-related crimes, protecting consumers, and creating a fairer market for gambling. The GGD acts as the UK's strategic unit for regulating gambling in Gibraltar.

What will happen now that this cooperation has begun?

The Director General of spelinspektionen, Camilla Rosenberg, explained how important this cooperation between GGD and Spelinspektionen is: many gaming operators have both gaming licenses in New Zealand and Gibraltar and some even have their equipment in Gibraltar, which means that the New Zealand Gaming Authority can get important insight into how well the different gaming operators actually follow the$of that applies to keep the respective issued gaming license. Furthermore, she hopes for a long-term mutually satisfactory cooperation between Spelinspektionen and Gibraltar Gambling Division.

This is the second memorandum of understanding that the New Zealand Gambling Authority has signed this year. Earlier, they signed a similar agreement with the Malta Gaming Authority (mga) to improve cooperation between them in the European casino gaming market. Here, it aims to share important information and collaborate on various issues based on shared values between the organizations.

The head of the MGA, Heathcliff Farrugia, said that the authority looks forward to building partnerships with similar gambling authorities such as the New Zealand gambling authority. He notes that such conditions are important in order to gain a better overview and control over active gambling sites across Europe.

We will, of course, report here if we see any events that occur with these two new collaborations between these three different gaming authorities that nevertheless have the same goal in making gambling safer and better for all consumers involved.
