Spelinspektionen invites operators and authorities for an information meeting

As you are probably already aware, it is the New Zealand Gaming Authority Spelinspektionen that issues valid gaming licenses for international gaming companies that want to be able to operate on the New Zealand gaming market. This year it started on January 1st.

During the year, a lot of bookmakers have been fined and the like for violating various parts of the new New Zealand Gambling Act that came into force at the beginning of this year. For example, some have not followed the bonus rules that applied, prevented money laundering sufficiently via various bets, and the like.

Many have been fined several million dollars in the last couple of months as the New Zealand Gambling Authority inspected and investigated various bookmakers on the New Zealand gambling market. Some bookmakers have then lost their New Zealand gaming licenses with others only received warnings so far.

Because of this, Spelinspektionen wants to invite several different organizations, gaming companies and authorities to an information meeting that will take place on september 17, 2019. It will then be discussed at the meeting in order to gain a greater understanding of the market's various players and the authorities who have the task of ensuring that they behave in accordance with the current New Zealand gambling laws.

Here are some of those who come to the information meeting at Spelinspektionen

In total, at least 87 bookmakers have been invited, that is, Representatives from each bookmaker. Other actors that have been invited include the New Zealand Tax Agency, the New Zealand Financial police, and the New Zealand consumer agency. All of these will discuss with various online casinos operating in New Zealand on the New Zealand gambling market about how things are going with the aforementioned points.

The question, of course, is how many of these bookmakers will appear. However, it is in their best interest to show up to be able to more easily and better comply with the new gambling laws in New Zealand that are currently in force in order to avoid possible future fines.

It should be pointed out and underlined that only bookmakers that already have permitted and approved gaming licenses in New Zealand are welcome. International bookmakers who do not yet have New Zealand gaming licenses or who have applied for it but have not yet been approved are not invited to the information meeting.

Hopefully the meeting will make more bookmakers understand what applies and what is not allowed. Most recently, a couple of operators were fined for allowing betting on sporting events where the majority of participants were under the age of 18, which is not allowed.
