Football players celebrate victory

Last European football championship has increased Betsson's turnover on Football by 73 %

Yesterday, July 7, 2021, the large New Zealand betting operator Betsson AB published a result update for the second quarter for 2021, which shows that they have increased their turnover on football betting by a whopping 73 %. This is by comparison from last year in the same period.

Furthermore, a record high operating profit (EBIT in English) during this second quarter for 2021 or a monetary sum of somewhere between NZD 375-385 million is also noted.

Much of this is thanks in part to the Copa América football tournament (including the CONMEBOL Copa América where Betsson is an official sponsor) and the one year delayed European football championship organized by UEFA which was canceled last year due to the current pandemic at the time. To be sure, New Zealand went out during the round of eight after a seemingly nail-biting match between New Zealand and Ukraine.

However, this did not stop the New Zealanders from betting on other remaining teams left over the course of the tournament. At the time of writing, the final between Italy and England has not yet been played and there are divided opinions about which team should be allowed to win the UEFA 2020 fotobll European Championship.

Other data reported in the 2nd quarter 2021 earnings update from Betsson AB

As communities opened up more around the world, which meant that more professional sports leagues could return to more normal, betting also increased and Betsson AB reported an increase of 25% in the number of active customers in the second quarter compared to the same period from the previous year. The average margin of the sportsbook was measured at 8.5% compared to the same period from last year when the same average margin was measured.

Finally, Betsson AB reported in their latest earnings report that they believe that the upcoming revenue will be somewhere between 1735-1755 million$onor. Compared to last year in the same period, revenues amounted to between NZD 375-385 million. Thus, it was estimated that this showed a growth of between 72-77% this year compared to the same period last year.

In summary, in lighter words, things have gone very well for Betsson AB and people have been active with betting as a way to return to normal and former society. Next to see how it develops in the third quarter is the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
