Microgaming + Poker = over soon?
It has emerged in a press release published on the game provider Microgaming's official website that they have decided to shut down their poker client called MPN which has been around for over a decade now. It has been around for 16 years, but that time is over now and sometime in 2020.
MPN stands for Microgaming Poker Network and is thus a network consisting of poker rooms to which several different online casinos are connected. In other words, several different gaming sites can share these poker rooms so you can play poker against players who are actually at other online casinos logged in.
More detailed information can also be read on the official blog of the MPN part from Microgaming. But in short, Microgaming believes that their business model for as it has been all these years for MPN that it is not profitable anymore and thus they intend to close that business. Poker as a product category, on the other hand, will continue for the game provider but with a completely different strategy that the bookmaker hopes will be more profitable for them. However, it is not clear what exactly this new growth strategy will be for Microgaming so it remains to be seen.
What does this mean for the poker players and maybe you?
Players who already play on the MPN at online casinos where this is provided by Microgaming can continue to play as usual. Events such as MPN Universe of Champions will run as planned as well as other scheduled events where Microgaming is the provider for the poker rooms.
You as a player still have time to withdraw your money from poker clients that use Microgaming software and it is in 2020 at some point, probably in the second or third quarter, that it will be closed down for good. We hope that it will live on even half the year for 2020, but no one knows for sure how long it will actually be. The only thing that is certain is that it will not be this year.
Contact your online casino's customer support if you want to know more about how to get your game money out there if they use Microgaming's poker services, so to speak. We will return with news of when the exact shutdown date has been clarified.
