The New Game law that changed everything

The new gambling law that changed everything

It has certainly not escaped you that on the first of January 2019 who took office a brand new gaming law in New Zealand regarding their online casino gaming market. Previously, before this law, there was only one monopoly in New Zealand that was allowed to provide casino gambling physically as well as digitally.

Previously, only the monopolies New Zealand Spel and AB trot & Gallopp (ATG) were allowed to offer gambling for New Zealandrna. Nowadays, at the time of writing, there are over 90 active registered gaming companies on the Spelinspektionen's page of gaming companies with a New Zealand license.

At the same time, there was no gambling law that forbade New Zealanders to play at online casinos abroad, i.e., at gambling sites that had their operations outside New Zealand but still accepted New Zealand players with open arms.

This then led to many New Zealanders playing on tons of different online gambling sites instead of playing at the two big monopolies. This, combined with the risks of gambling addiction and other gambling problems, The New Zealand government decided to develop a new law for gambling in New Zealand.

A new game Law, a new game market

The new Gambling Act that passed in$aft first January 2019, which is almost a year and a half ago, meant a completely new gambling market in New Zealand. Now, finally, gambling operators abroad could apply for gambling licenses in New Zealand to operate in the country with their gaming companies and online casinos.

Various things that Spelinspektionen has since dealt with in addition to establishing a completely new gaming market are, among other things, to counteract fixed matches, money laundering, and ensure that active gaming companies in New Zealand comply with the new gaming law.

A number of bookmakers have had their gaming licenses revoked, others have been fined, and still others have received warnings, due to violations of the new gaming laws in New Zealand. But all is not just bad news for bookmakers interested in the vast New Zealand gaming market of online casino games and sports betting.

Speaking of the latter, there may have been added sponsors now in sports betting. For example, New Zealand AllNew Zealandn has signed an agreement with Kindred Group (with their Unibet brand) in a deal equivalent to a whopping$900 million onor that will run for six years from the first of January 2020.
